Clint C. Ferenz, MD

Specialties: Hand and Upper Extremities

Dr. Clint Ferenz attended Hofstra University in New York where he graduated magna cum laude with major degrees in Biology and Mathematics. During his college years he played four years of varsity intercollegiate baseball where he was the leading pitcher for all of those years. He also traveled to competing universities while representing Hofstra on their intramural traveling basketball team. During the off season he worked as an athletic trainer for all of the intercollegiate sporting teams.

Upon graduation, Dr. Ferenz attended SUNY-Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York where he graduated with an M.D. He then stayed at Kings County Hospital for an Orthopaedic residency over the next five years. Kings County is the third largest city hospital, and trauma center, in the entire United States. While completing his residency, Dr. Ferenz published multiple research papers, was an assistant clinical instructor of Orthopaedics, and worked as a teaching and research assistant at Cooper Union College in New York City.

After completing his residency, Dr. Ferenz moved to Boston in order to complete a fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at Tufts-New England Medical Center. His training included treating patients and performing surgery at New England Medical Center, the Veterans Administration Hospital, the Baptist Hospital, and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Responsibilities consisted of working as a clinical instructor who taught residents; covering the upper extremity trauma at the major medical center; and performing microsurgical replantations of severed limbs. Additional activities included performing research, publishing papers which included the design of a new procedure used to treat failed distal ulna resections, and presenting his research to the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

After spending a year of private practice involving hand and microsurgery in Miami, Florida, Dr. Ferenz started an Orthopaedic and Hand Surgical practice with Dr. John Tozzi, and this is now the Orthopaedic Institute of Central Jersey. Dr. Ferenz has maintained a local residence at the Jersey shore and is involved in many activities. Medical responsibilities have included covering the level 2 orthopaedic trauma center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center; providing coverage for many of the local high schools and colleges for athletic injuries; maintaining coverage for the AVP (Association of Pro Volleyball Tour) when it passes through the Jersey shore; and treating many complex injuries and revision surgeries for occupational and work related injuries.

Dr. Ferenz is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and has passed his recertification examination on two occasions (required every ten years), most recently in 2011. He has continued to remain active in coaching and teaching athletics, and participates in multiple sporting activities. He has been filmed and followed for the televised special, “Trauma at the Jersey Shore.”

The Dalai Lama has said: “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” It has been those values that have been the basis for Dr. Ferenz’ medical career, and have allowed the Orthopaedic Institute to expand into the epic center for superb and compassionate orthopaedic care that it is today.
